An article in The Verge, discusses the broader impact wearables have had on health.
The focus is on cardiovascular health, sleep health, & sports/fitness - all tracked by most devices.
As more people own and use wearables doctors are having more patients approach them with their data to either show heart-rate irregularities or challenges with sleeping, but for many doctors there is still concern over what the data means, whether there are false positives or if the data is telling the full story.
Although there have been cases where the Apple Watch has picked up on a heart condition, doctors cite that for subsets of their patients there can be an unhealthy obsession with the data that does not always lead to a health improvement.
One such group are those who have suffered with eating disorders or exercise disorders as well as triathletes who may get far too involved in the numbers for optimizing performance tracking.
