A new study evaluates the efficacy of 0.1%, 1% and 10% of sandalwood oil against a placebo for its ability to protect against oxidative stress.
The research out of Mauritius, Australia, and France, found a dose dependent relationship between the level of sandalwood and the amount of squalene monohydroperoxide (SQOOH) produced after exposing skin to blue light at a wavelength of 412 nm.
The skin treated with the 10% sandalwood-containing had the lowest amount of SQOOH, showing the highest level of protection.
Increasing the concentration of the sandalwood oil increased its protective antioxidant activity.
