In cased you missed it, Stryx the male cosmetics and skincare brand which expanded into CVS, sent a cease and desist letter to Good Light, over the use of the wording 'pimple patch'.
Technically according to the USPTO database Stryx does not yet own the name pimple patch, but the broader topic it brought up is whether someone can really own a general beauty category...like can you trademark the word 'Shampoo' or 'eye liner'. Usually no.
In the USPTO database however there is an expired Pimple Patch trademark.
A quick search shows there are plenty of other brands using the term pimple patch on their products, and these products date back to the early 2000s in Korea.
A quick search on social media will bring up the content around this, I have included David Yi, the founder of Good Light's response below.
Something that is worth noting is how for years these types of challenges exist behind closed doors, having been in claims previously this is not uncommon. However, now with social media giving a voice to those who would normally not be heard, the dynamics are quite different.
